Contemporary vs lyrical dance12/19/2023 ![]() Leaps are exceptionally high and soaring, and turns are fluid and continuous. Movements in lyrical dance are characterized by fluidity and grace, with the dancer flowing seamlessly from one move to another, holding finishing steps as long as possible. The lyrics of the chosen song serve as inspiration for the dancers' movements and expressions. Music used for lyrical dance is typically emotionally charged and expressive. The movement style ranges from sharp and fast to gooey and fluid and is performed to a wide range of music. Contemporary dance is an organic, expressive style where the dancers explore freedom of movement, allowing their bodies to freely express their innermost feelings and tell stories. Each include elements of ballet, jazz and modern dance styles.Ĭontemporary dance stresses versatility and improvisation. Liam has the determination, motivation, personality and drives to give this community many opportunities in dance.Contemporary and Lyrical dance are sub sets of the Jazz dance genre. Liam’s community dance vision has had a huge, positive impact on this community, raising self esteem, confidence and fitness levels as well as giving people the opportunity to learn many different dance routines. Liam’s classes are diverse ranging from his youngest dancer who are under 1 years old, to his eldest dancers who is 75 years plus which are very popular. Showoff Dance has worked closely with the Army Welfare Service (AWS) in delivering dance sessions for children, teenagers and Tidworth Mums through the AWS multisport and alternative sports sessions. This has happened on many occasions with performances in London, Essex, Salisbury and various charity and community events, quite often with very short notice. ![]() Liam is able to work with all abilities and ages and has excellent choreographic skills in combining all the different dance classes into one when asked to a community performance. ![]() Liam now has a dance company called ‘Showoff Dance’ and his reputation and popularity as a dance teacher has become widely known. ![]() He has successfully done this through his sheer hard work and determination to make his classes affordable, fun and interesting. His vision is to foster an all inclusive dance project to integrate military and civilian people, from all walks of life and all different ages. Liam has been working with the Tidworth community and surrounding villages for the last 8 years introducing young and older people into various modes of dance. Even if your new to dance, or have been dancing all of your life, Modern does wonders for the physique, confidence and definitely puts a spring in your step Modern dance is a great way for any age or ability to enjoy dancing without having to worry about strict technique, or classical posture. Unlike the classical ballet stance of an upright, erect body, Modern dance often leans, twists and deliberately falls to the floor. Whereas classical ballet strives to be light and airy on the feet, modern dance often use the body weight to enhance movement. It is not unusual for choreographers to invent new steps for their routines, instead of following the structured technique of ballet.Īnother characteristic of modern dance is the deliberate use of gravity. Modern dance encourages dancers to use their emotions and moods to design their own steps and routines. Turning against the structured techniques, costumes and shoes of ballet, these dancers favoured a more relaxed, free style of dancing. ![]() Modern dance is a dance style that centres on a dancer’s own interpretations instead of structured steps, as in traditional ballet dancing. ![]()
